trange and unusual is Mythos, a 14 x 18 acrylic painting which was commissioned by a huge Morrison fan from overseas. The completion of this project was an uphill battle, nearly six months, during which it seemed there was some bad magic on me for sure: my car broke down, one of my teeth suddenly required a root canal, my area was suddenly hit with endless work layoffs, as well as a record-breaking ice storm that rendered us without electricity for 14 days... I am a bit superstitious by nature, and I admit that after awhile I was starting to feel this project was cursed or something!
But now, having completed it, I'm very glad I stuck with it. It manages to convey a concept from my childhood when I read "The Last Unicorn", something about the "Rainbow Serpent", which is another name for the Midgard Serpent, or Leviathan: Lord of the Sea and the Consort of Gaia; The Wielder of Tridents, The Breaker of Ships: The Doors of His Face, The Lamps of His Mouth…
Interesting also, is the presence of the bathtub, which was requested by the client; but only now upon completion have I realized that an old claw-foot bathtub just like the one shown here was used as a portal or passageway between planes (this one, and Hell) in one of my favorite sci-fi movies, Constantine.
